Asthma is a kind of disorder of the air ways and
inflammation of this organ. It may occurs in all ages groups and it is very
commonin the whole world. When asthma occur then obstruction of the air ways.
It is largely controllable and it depends on the stage of the disease.
Pathogenesis
The lumen of the air ways is decreasing in asthmatic
condition and there is responsing allergens and other irritants. Excessively
constrict and narrow the smooth muscles in the air ways. And caused swelling of
the airways. Due to inflammation of the
air ways increasing cough, wheezing and shortness of breath.
Prevalence
The children whose family history have allergy and asthma
they may have this disease. Allergies
are related to asthma.
Causes
of asthma
Asthma is divided into 4 groups such as 1. allergic asthma , 2.Infective or
Intrinsic asthma 3. Emotional asthma 4. Occupational
asthma.
1. Allergic asthma- It is caused and proceded by
eczema. It is also caused by genetic
factors. It increases immunoglobins. It is occur in young adults(35yrs).
Infective or Intrinsic asthma- It is caused by upper
respiratory tract or bronchial infection. It’s infection is viral.
3.Emotional asthma- It is caused by psychological factors
such as emotional stress, anxiety.
4. occupational asthma- It is caused by biological
detergents, metallic dusts, toluene disocyanate, flour, polyurethane, dust etc. There is also causes by animal dander, house
dust mites, cockroach droppings, hay fever or allergic rhinitis, irritants such
as strong odours, tobacco smoke, paints, household cleaners.viral or sinus
infections, exercising in cold, dry air, mouth breathing etc.
Symptoms
of asthma
The main symptoms are
1.Difficulty in breathing. 2.
Cough 3.Exhaustion 4.Mucus production
Difficulty in breathing( paroxysmal dyspnoea), breathing has
wheezing sound, At the early hours of morning asthma attacks. Breathlessness or
suffocation, physical exertion,
infection, mental stress,change in weather, exposure to pollution such as dust,
chemical, pollen etc.
The asthma occur in 1. Periodical( once in a week to once in
a year) 2. Seasonal,( a few weeks in a
year) 3. Continous (all throughout or
most of the time).
Diagnosis
By a competent doctor diagnosis is done. For the diagnosis X-ray, sputum, allergen sensitivity tests, blood tests etc are done. And it is
