Urticaria

Hives , it,s medical name is urticaria , that’s are red ,itchy ,it, raised areas of skin that appear in varying  shapes and sizes. Hives may be found round, rings or large patches. Wheals (welts), red lesions are seen  at the border sides . Hives may occur any where of the body such as the legs, arms and the trunk.

Hives are caused by the allergic reactions and many non allergic causes. Non allergic causes lasts less than 6 months and it is called acute articaria. chronic articaia that is lasting longer than 6 weeks . chronic hives caused from unknown cause  in the majority of patients. chronic Idiopathic urticaria caused an autoimmune caused in the 30-40% of patients. Hives; less common cause are friction, pressure, temperature extremes, exercise, and sunlight. It,s common cause of acute articaria is acute viral infection.

Types of Urticaria

Acute urticaria- It lasts a few houres to severel weeks. Nuts, peanuts, eggs, wheat, and soy are most common cause in children.It,s less common cause is exposure to certain bacteria such as streptococcus or possibly Helicobacter pylori.

Chronic urticaria

It lasts 6 weeks or more. Acute and chronic urticaria has no visual differences.  Some of the chronic cases are 20 years old or more.

Physical urticarias

Reaction to water is called Aquagenic.

Reaction to body heat, such as when exercising or after a hot shower is called Cholinergic.

Reaction to cold, such as ice, cold air or water - worse with sudden change in temperature is called chronic cold articaria.

Reaction to standing for long periods, bra-straps, elastic bands on undergarments, are called delayed pressure.

Causes of Urticaria

EXOGENOUS CAUSES

Nettles, wasps, bugs, caterpillars are causes of insect bites.

ENDOGENOUS CAUSES

strawberry, masroom, Fish, prawns, eggs, fish, prawns are allergies of foods.

Artificial colours, food preservatives etc.

PARASITES

Hook worm.
• Hydatid disease.

Round worm.
• Tape worm.

• Filariasis.

Emotional stress.
• Over-exertion  etc are causes of  phychogenic causes.
